You know it ’s beauty.

"Your instinct tells you it is something" What is the subtlety of this heart that TEMPYO SETTA feels?
It proves that the hearts that people in the Tenpyo era feel beautiful are passed down to somewhere in the hearts of modern people.
At the intersection where the emotions of the heart that occur naturally, the treasures of Shosoin that have been protected to be inherited, and the traditional craftsmanship meet,
"DESIGN SETTA SANGO" --TEMPYO "exists.

TEMPYO PATTERN

TEMPYO pattern

Tempyo pattern that originated in the Mediterranean world and West Asia in the Nara period 1300 years ago and was born in Japan through the filter of the gorgeous culture of Tang. The design, which is often used in the treasures of Shosoin, is a pattern that beautifully prays for the prosperity of people.
With flowers and birds as motifs, the movement of the heart that feels naturally in them is strongly engraved in the instinct of us modern people.
TEMPYO SETTA is as fascinating as the one flower in front of you.
TEMPYO PATTERN
MISSION TO PRODDUCE "TEMPYO SETTA"

Mission to handle TEMPYO SETTA I can think of the tremendous work of keeping it for 1300 years.
The "pride of Nara" that emerges there.
The word Nara = conservative is often used, but behind the word is the constant effort, patience and passion for treasure.
The patience and passion of our ancestors is proud of being a citizen of Nara prefecture.
We believe that it is our mission to commercialize the charm of the Tempyo pattern and spread it widely.

履き心地を極める
Pursuing a Master comfortableness

"Extreme comfort"

DESIGN SETTA SANGO's setta is made with advanced technology and labor by craftsmen so that only one pair can be produced over the time it takes to make 10 pairs of conventional setta.

Comfortable comfort that doesn't hurt your feet

"Hanao" The shape is rounded and thick. The cushion material and cotton have a four-layer structure that fits the shape of the wearer's foot. This technique can only be done by skilled hanao craftsmen in Sango Town.

鼻緒

"Cushioning of the bottom" The heavenly part consists of 3 layers including cushioning material, which is fluffy and reduces pain in the soles of the feet.
Furthermore, the EVA material of the midsole has excellent shock absorption and reduces the burden on the knee.
The TR material of the outsole is light and non-slip, and can be worn indoors.
When going out, it is strong against asphalt and adopts a friction degree that does not damage the indoor flooring.
It is characterized by its high design and strength.

底のクッション性

"The sole is high and the silhouette is beautiful" For sole processing, the technology of the processed bottom, which is rare in Japan, is utilized by craftsmen in Gose City, Nara Prefecture.
By using a blade with a special coating for cutting after punching, a smooth, highly accurate and beautiful form has been realized.

ABOUT US

"I want to bring footwear with a hanao back to modern everyday life"
In 2013, a project started by only four people in a small country town in a corner of Nara.
That is the beginning of DESIGN SETTA SANGO.

The traditional image of wearing Japanese clothes is "difficult to walk and hurt" "things to wear when wearing kimono or yukata"
Overturning that, redesigned as a completely new footwear that takes root in a part of daily life And I will send it.
ABOUT US

Two pillars of comfort and design

By enhancing "design", we would like to be " fashion items that consumers want " instead of "preserved traditional crafts".

It is natural that things that are unnecessary for daily life and those that lack functionality and design are being weeded out.
I want it from cute! I want to wear it because it's fashionable!
We are passionate about creating products that you can feel at a glance. We will develop the technology of the setta craftsmen in Sango Town, which has been cultivated over a long period of time, from a local industry to a regional brand with new ideas and transmission power.

-The sense of beauty at the heart The subtleties of the heart we feel towards TEMPYO SETTA. The sense of beauty, the spirit people had back in the Tempyo era has been passed onto us. It is in our genes. Where most natural emotions we have the naturally occurring emotions, the treasures of Shoso-in Treasure Repository that have been protected to be inherited, and the traditional craftsmanship meet, That is where you meet “DESIGN SETTA SANGO --TEMPYO”
PRODUCT STORY

Until TEMPYO SETTA is made

In 2013, the setta made as a prototype of DESIGN SETTA SANGO was colorful and cute using European vintage fabric for the thong. We started by designing unused overseas vintage fabrics such as aprons and curtains more than 50 years ago by reborn and regenerating them by traditional Japanese industries, giving value to old ones.
Eventually, we created a series of collaborations with Japanese textile designers and artists, and collaborations with local industries such as Omi's hemp, expanding the range to simple, cool, and natural designs.

story
I dared to avoid a design that emphasized Nara's uniqueness.
It wasn't a setta as a "souvenir of Nara", but a desire to be independent as a brand. I wanted to break away from the traditional industry that should be protected and to be a fashion item that is sought after.
The goal was to receive orders from 47 prefectures from our online store.
We were able to achieve that goal by receiving an order from a person from Okinawa Prefecture in 2020.
With this as a break, we will finally create a made in NARA setter that only we can do with our own design, Nara, which is our origin.
I started the project.
What I paid attention to was the Tenpei pattern depicted on the treasure of Shosoin, a World Heritage Site that Nara Prefecture is proud of.
The patterns that have been carefully handed down from person to person dating back to the Nara period are sophisticated and highly versatile. Haruka-san, Honke Kikuya-san, Ikuri-san, etc., who are well-established representatives of Nara, are also used, and we can see them on a daily basis.
story
story
Knowing that Nara's proud property design has not been used in the footwear industry yet, Chiyo Fujino, a leading expert in Tenpei pattern design and a database of Tenpei patterns, designed it. We requested the offer and received your consent.
In order to express the gorgeous city culture of the design with a deeper history, I thought that it would be most appropriate to embroider the pattern instead of printing it on the fabric.
story

When I asked Mr. Harada, the president of the embroidery company "Stitch Works" in Yamatotakada City, who had been interacting with me for a long time, to embroider the Tenpei pattern on his nose, he would be happy to cooperate. From here, trial and error for product development began.
The protagonist of Setta is the hanao.

I didn't dare to embroider the whole thing, but expressed the beauty of Japan with "the beauty of the margins".

In recent years, there are many brands that have a thin hanao and focus on the sole. We wanted to incorporate Misato's hanao technique into this setter, and wanted to apply the Tenpyo pattern to the hanao. Instead of printing on the fabric, the pattern is embroidered from the state of the fabric one by one to make it into a hanao, which is a time-consuming specification with the advanced technique of craftsmen.
Of course, it wasn't going well from the beginning. In embroidery, the needle of the sewing machine broke many times and the thread broke. When tailoring the hanao, the embroidery did not come to the desired position due to the stretch of the fabric such as twisting, and while adjusting the embroidery position, the thickness of the fabric, and the condition of the glue many times, the trial production was repeated for 2 years. It was completed over time.

In addition, this setter with a view to overseas expansion uses materials that can be adapted to various overseas living environments, and has improved strength and durability. The material of the heavens (the part on which the feet are placed) was helped by President Watanabe of Kyoto textile company "Ken Fashion".
story

The fabric woven for DESIGN SETTA SANGO to improve the durability of the black fabric, which has been a long-standing issue, is made by randomly weaving processed yarn made by twisting two yarns and irregular nylon yarn. It is a dobby weave that is woven over time on a rare loom over 50 years ago. While having the strength of nylon, it expresses a glossy texture that shows its expression with a fluffy touch and angle, and it also has elasticity, so it is an excellent item that is also suitable for heavenly winding.

story
In addition, we have selected 3 types of special heavenly fabrics such as jacquard weave.

DESIGN SETTA SANGO's original sole, which is characterized by its ease of walking and beautiful form.
A craftsman in Gose City, Nara Prefecture, has adopted a technology called a processed bottom, which is rare in Japan. After die-cutting, a specially coated blade is used to manually grind and finish the sole, creating a smooth and carefully selected sole.

In this way, many companies and craftsmen put their skills and thoughts into Nara's proud setter.
We hope that you will actually experience the history and beauty of Nara, as well as the comfort of wearing it with technology.
